Originally from Pakistan, Ummear earned his PhD in pharmacology from East Tennessee State University. Currently, his research is focused on identifying population dynamics linked to the transition from unresponsiveness to reflexive responses and the eventual generation of learned, goal-oriented movements as animals emerge from unconsciousness to wakefulness. His prior research concentrated on understanding neural function at both cellular and network levels in psychiatric conditions.
